The Project
This project was created to explore the idea of creating an original product for Kraft's mac and cheese brand. Given that those were the only project guidelines it provided us an avenue to really explore our creative boundaries. I chose to make mac and cheese recipes that were based on different cultures around the world as a more gourmet way of eating mac and cheese.
The Research
To start I chose to really research what flavors I wanted to explore and I knew right at the start I wanted to do a savory, spicy, and more zesty flavor to show a wide variety of pallets between the three. Given that I decided to explore Scottish, Indian, and Mexican dishes and cultures to find my dishes. This brought me to think of making the boxes resemble old travel cases with stickers representing the different cultures with each sticker having a cultural connection to the place of origin.
I took the shape of the the sporran which traditionally hangs over a kilt. There are many styles to which this can look like however I chose the style that I saw occur most frequently.

When researching for what to make this sticker look like I explored more deeply into fashion specifically the beautiful ornate jewelry that comes from this culture. I came across several pieces that had a teardrop shape at their core design so I chose to move forward with this as my primary shape. The colors were also derived from populare traditional fabric colors deeply rooted in the traditions of the culture.

This design was derived from the belt buckles of the Vaquero's or cowboys from Mexican culture. The colors were derived from the actual mexican flag creating a very energetic color scape for the overall design.

The Box
The box design came from the actual box grid used at Kraft for their mac and cheese boxes. I stuck to the use of their branding guidelines for the placement of text and their logo as well.
